Gingival Recession Causes and Solutions:

When the gums recede, both aesthetic and biological problems arise. Sometimes incorrect tooth brushing, sometimes clenching or grinding, and sometimes poorly made dental fillings or crowns can cause this. Gum recession is usually the result of advanced gum disease. Gum recession occurs with the loss of bone volume underneath. There are some important symptoms that we can recognize before gum recession. By taking these symptoms into consideration, it is possible to stop the problem of gingival recession, which is difficult to treat, before it progresses.

Incorrect tooth brushing:

If the brush used is hard or the bristles are not of suitable quality, it can traumatize the gums and cause them to recede. It is recommended to simply change the toothbrush and use quality toothbrushes. Incorrect use of electric toothbrushes can also cause gum recession. Especially pressing the toothbrush on the gums more than it should can cause serious recession of the gums and even erosion of the hard tissues of the teeth.

When you use the toothbrush and toothpasterecommended by your dentist as described, problems such as gum recession will disappear.

Teeth clenching and teeth grinding:

Due to excessive forces on the teeth, pressure is created in the neck of the tooth. In patients who clench or grind their teeth, micro tooth fractures called zipping occur in the area where the teeth and gums meet. With the effect of clenching and grinding that continues over time, gingival recession and bone loss in the neck of the tooth occur following the loss of material at the gingival margin. Although the dentist tries to distribute the pressure on the teeth in a balanced way with the night plate, the main thing is to completely solve this psychologically based problem with the help of a psychologist. People who grind and clench their teeth develop chewing joint TMJ disorders over time and cause pain and chewing difficulties that negatively affect life. I would like to remind you once again that if you have a teeth grinding and clenching problem, you should find a solution as soon as possible.

Poorly made dental fillings and crowns:

The area called periodontal junction is extremely important in the area where the teeth and gums meet. If biological and physical errors are made in this area during tooth filling, the ground is prepared for the formation of gum pockets. Over time, unwanted regional problems are seen with gum disease and gingival recession. Long dental veneersin this area also disrupt blood circulation and interrupt the nutrition of the gums as they will put pressure on the gums. In a short time, the gums get sick and the problems that occur with gum recession are toothache, food accumulation and bad breath .

What are the symptoms that occur before gum recession caused by gum disease?

First of all, the gums lose their rosy pink color and orange peel-like surface texture. Redness and swelling begin. This is followed by bleeding gums, which I call a red alarm. The gums start bleeding during tooth brushing. If left untreated over time, bleeding gums also occur when consuming hard foods. If the gums start to bleed when the gums are pricked or sucked with the tongue, it is time to go to the dentist. At this stage, you can easily get rid of this problem thanks to the scaling and curettage procedure that the dentist will apply to you when you go to the dentist.

When measures are not taken in time, progressive gum disease progresses from the gingivitis stage to the periodontitis stage and destruction of the bone tissue under the gums begins. Gum pocket is formed. Bacterial plaque easily adheres in the gum pocket formed at the junction of the tooth and gum and this layer cannot be removed even by brushing the teeth. The harmful micro-organisms in the bacterial plaque multiply rapidly and the destruction of bone tissue begins with the effect of acid and other chemicals that cause destruction for tissues. Since the gums are edematous, i.e. swollen, it is usually not noticed at this stage that there is destruction and the volume of the gums decreases.

The exposed roots of the teeth try to warn us with cold and hot sensitivity at this stage. Sour and acidic foods cause sensitivity and discomfort on the root surface. At this stage, it is necessary to start gum treatment as early as possible. After your gum treatments are completed, the edema in your gums subsides and you can observe more clearly that your tooth roots are exposed. In this case, which is also aesthetically problematic, a gum operation can be performed to replace the lost gum with gum grafting methods. The gingival connective tissue graft taken from the appropriate area in the mouth is used to increase the gum volume. However, this is not a miracle treatment. At least it prevents further recession.

Orthodontic treatment is a treatment for people of all ages. People get orthodontic treatmentfor their teeth because they want to look better. However, just when they dream of looking beautiful, they do not like it when the orthodontist puts metal braces on their teeth. For this reason, aesthetic braces are applied in orthodontic treatment that will not spoil the aesthetic appearance too much.
